John S. Murray, PhD, MPH, MSGH, RN, CPNP-PC, CS, FAAN is a Senior Healthcare Executive and Consultant in Boston who specializes in High-Reliability Organizations (HROs), promoting evidence-based patient safety and efficient healthcare delivery.
John has more than 35 years of experience in healthcare, process improvement, and HRO in the military, Veterans Health Administration, Civilian Healthcare Systems, as well as academic institutions. He served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force for 28 years, retiring as a Colonel. While on active duty, he served as a consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General, twice for pediatrics and once for research, and was the Department of Defense representative to the National Institutes of Health Research Advisory Council.
Fully committed to fostering knowledge-sharing collaborations and advancing the state of science, John has personally published over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and ten textbook chapters. Additionally, he designed, implemented, and sustained VHA’s HRO co-publishing and co-presentation program, coaching over 60 VHA leaders in the publishing and presenting process. These efforts resulted in the publication of 19 articles in highly respected peer-reviewed journals (national and international), one chapter in an award-winning textbook on patient safety and quality of care, and several presentations at major professional meetings and conferences.
